Abstract

356,476. Cooling liquids; refrigerating. DEHN, F. B., 103, Kingsway, London. -(Pevely Dairy Co. ; 1001, South Grand Boulevard, St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A.) Sept. 8, 1930, No. 26807. [Class 29.] Liquid to be cooled is delivered through a pipe 28 to a horizontal pipe 29, Fig. 3, having perforations 30 along the top, flows into an outer concentric pipe 23 and issues through perforations 25 on to a horizontal header pipe 4 of a tubular evaporator for a refrigerant. The liquid is distributed over the walls of the vertical evaporator tubes 6 by grooved plates 26, and drips from the lower header 5 into a trough 31 with a central discharge pipe 33. The refrigerant is supplied through pipes 14, 16, 11 to the bottom header, the flow being controlled by a valve in a casing 15 actuated by a float in a chamber 18 in communication with a trap 8. A constant pressure and temperature of the refrigerant is maintained by an automatic valve 13 in the vapour outlet pipe 12. The cooler is supported between end-frame members 2, 3, and is covered in.
