Cooling liquids by indirect contact with cooling media; refrigerators, domestic and like; refrigeraling, absorption machines for. - A cabinet for cooling water &c. contains a water-tank 17 in thermal connection with the evaporator 18 of an absorption machine disposed in the compartments 14, 15 of the cabinet. The water-tank is provided with thermostat 67, which may operate by the expansion on freezing of liquid therein, adapted to close the valve 66 controlling the supply of gas to the burner 64 of the generator 93 of the machine when a predetermined quantity of the water in the tank freezes. The evaporator and the tank are connected by a metal casting 69 clamped to the evaporator and the tank respectively by bolts and flexible bands 75 the tension in which can be adjusted. Water from the mains flows through a pipe 21 to a pressurereducing valve of the diaphragm type and thence through a pipe 23 into the tank from which it is withdrawn through a pipe 24 having a press-button faucet 26 beneath which is a sink provided with a drain pipe 29. The generator of the refrigerating machine is provided with a central flue 30 through which pass the products of combustion from the burner 64 to a shaft 31 having outlets 32 projecting through the rear wall of the cabinet. The refrigerant evaporated in the generator rises through a. duct 36 into the upper part of a rectifying- jacket 37 from which it passes into a condenser coil 38 intercolated with a cooling-water coil 39. The condensed refrigerant flows into the lower part of the rectifying-jacket and thence through the pipe 41 to the evaporator 18. The evaporator contains superposed plate 32 having rimmed openings 44 and its upper and lower ends are connected to the corresponding ends of the absorber 48 by pipe coils 42, 46 respectively in heat-exchange contact with each other. The lower end of the absorber is also connected by a pipe 55 to one end of the outer coil 58 of a heat-exchanger comprising coaxial coils, the other end of the outer coil communicating through pipes 61, 62 with the generator-space 60 and the upper end of the absorber respectively. Cooling water flows through a branch pipe 51 on the supply pipe 23 to the tank, a coil 50 welded to the absorber, and the condenser cooling-coil 39 to the drain pipe 29 from the sink 28 on the cabinet, the outlet from the coil being regulated by a thermostatically-controlled valve which opens when the temperature of the water reaches a predetermined maximum value. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a cabinet containing a tank for fruit juice &c. having a cover with an air vent and to which access is obtained through a cover in the cabinet. In a modification, the tank is suplied with carbon-dioxide for the production of aerated drinks, and the cover is provided with a safety-valve. In another arrangement, an inverted bottle 87, Fig. 7 (Cancelled) is supported in the tank upon a rubber ring 86. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
