Abstract

356,155. Golf clubs. ILES, A. S., 4, Carlton Terrace, Hoylake, Cheshire. June 2, 1930, No. 16954. [Class 132 (ii).] A golf-club head has an opening in the sole which expands to allow a ball to pass therethrough and afterwards contracts to retain the ball above the opening. As shown, the head 1 of a putter, which may be used to pick up balls from the green or out of the hole, is formed with a tubular passage 10, the lower end of which is constricted by a resilient annular disc 4 that is deformable to allow a ball 8 to pass upwardly into the passage, but prevent its return. The resilient disc is clamped between the head 1 and an internal sleeve 3 that may be screwed into the head or be slidable therein and secured by screws. The clubhead may be formed of wood or metal, or of wood with a metal striking face.
