Abstract
A fabric C to be fulled and washed passes over a roller 86, 105 and falls untensioned and in full width transverse folds on to a conveyer 10, 100 which presses it against a series of plain, fluted, or corrugated rolls 22 mounted in a revolving carrier 20. After being unfolded and passed over a roller 24 or 106 the fabric is folded again and acted upon on the same side as before as shown in Fig. 1, or on the opposite side as shown in Fig. 2, by other rolls 22. After passing through squeeze rolls 45 the fabric either passes back to the roller 86, 105 or on to the washing machine where it is deposited in folds on a conveyer 55 depressed by loosely mounted rollers 60 beneath the surface of the liquid in a soaking tank 58. After passing through squeeze rolls 66, twice through a soap <PICT:0355264/IV/1> <PICT:0355264/IV/2> bath 70 and the squeezer rolls 73, 74, 77, it may pass back to the rolls 45 and again through the washing apparatus or to the fulling apparatus. Water is sprayed on the fabric from pipes 50 and removed along with dirt by extractors 51. The conveyer belts 10, 100 can be lowered away from the fulling rolls 22 and driven at a variable speed.
