Abstract

<PICT:0370066/IV/1> <PICT:0370066/IV/2> A machine for scouring wool and other animal fibres or vegetable fibres and for washing or cleaning yarns, textile fabrics, or the like comprises a vat a into which the fibres are fed by an endless belt b having hinged tines b<1>, jets or nozzles c which are fed by a scouring liquid under pressure, and an endless belt d passing over drums d<1>, d<2>, driven from a convenient source, and over and under rollers, e, f arranged so that the belt travels below the surface of the liquid in the vat. The fibres on entering the solution are first acted upon by the jets c which help them over the first roller e into the first tray g, and the fibres are then carried along through the vat between the belt and the rollers being alternately squeezed and compressed and allowed to expand and absorb fresh liquor in each of the trays g. In a modificatioon the belt may be below the rollers and the fibres carried along its top surface or the fibres may be passed between two travelling belts, or between a belt and a chain belt carrying presser plates or between a pair of presser plates or hollow perforated rollers. The liquid may also be circulated, being drawn off through the strainer a<5>. The fibres are carried by a belt i to a swilling or rinsing vat h where they are carried on a belt k between rollers l, k<3> and l<1>, k<4>. The partially dried fibres are blown off the belt k by air jets m into a container n.
