Abstract

355,046. Vacuum cleaners ; pipe couplings. MATTICK, V. A., Ashleigh, Avenue Road, Wolverhampton. Sept. 4, 1930, No. 26375. [Classes 8 (i) and 99 (i).] A vacuum cleaner comprises a motor-driven fan and a dust-bag within a cylindrical casing a having a detachable flanged cover b at the dust-bag end and a screwed cover c at the motor end. These ends are provided with screwed sockets d, k to receive the hose connection, which is formed by a flanged end portion l of insulating material seating against the flanged end of the socket and a screwed sleeve m making an airtight joint between the two ; the sleeve is free to rotate on the end portion of the hose so that twisting of the hose is avoided. The dust-bag g has a rubber lip h seating against the end of the casing and clamped by the cover b which is held by releasable toggle catches j. The hose may be fitted to the discharge end, and its outer end fitted with an electric heater for hair drying. Fine dust may be trapped and the air sterilized by an impregnated renewable pad carried on a gauze partition. The wheels q are mounted on an axle r extending through a tube s, and are held to the axle by spring plungers t engaging grooves u in the axle. A stand w of strip metal is provided for use on stairs &c. Current is supplied through a removable plug f.
