Abstract

Rubber and the like is coloured by the aluminium lakes of hydroxy-anthraquinones, amino-hydroxy-anthraquinones, and N-substituted amino-hydroxy-anthraquinones containing one or more sulphonic acid groups in the anthraquinone nucleus. The lakes can be used as such, or in admixture with an appropriate substratum such as aluminium oxide, fixed white, lithopone, titanium white and the like. The pigments are distributed in the rubber in a state of fine division, and possess the property of being fast to light and soap and of not bleeding. The Provisional Specification also includes aluminium lakes of carboxylic acids of the above mentioned anthraquinone derivatives, and is not limited to substitution in the anthraquinone nucleus.
