Abstract

354,754. Thermostats. HARRIS, W. J., Princes Hill, Redlynch, near Salisbury, Wiltshire. May 6, 1930, No. 13857. [Class 64 (ii).] A variable resistance comprises two elements arranged side by side, one at least of which is wire or tape wound, the elements forming a track for a roller device which bridges them, and is maintained on electric contact by gravity. The invention is described as applied to maintaining an incubator temperature constant. A thermostat 10 operates through linkwork 14 .. 18 a sphere 5 rolling on the edges of resistance elements 1, 2. The resistance may be the heating resistance or a regulating resistance therefor. The resistance may also be used for maintaining the temperature of rooms in a similar way, or by controlling a solenoid operating a steam, hot water, or hot-air valve.
