Abstract

353,636. Operating clutches. JANDER, H., 51, Emdenerstrasse, Berlin. June 17, 1930, No. 18478. Convention date, July 5, 1929. [Class 80 (ii).] In means for automatically controlling motor vehicle clutches bv engine suction, the induction pipe 4 is connected to a valve chamber 8 communicating by a passage 18 with a chamber containing a piston vane 22, the shaft 23 of which carries a pulley 24 connected by a rope or chain pull 25 to the clutch pedal 26, so that on the valve 9 being opened the suction of the engine disengages the clutch. The valves 9, 10 are operated by an electromagnet 17, the circuit of which is made and broken by contacts 35, 36 during the initial movement of the accelerator pedal 1. The lead 28 to the winding 27 is preferably connected to the main cable 30 of the ignition battery 31 beyond the battery switch 29 and, to save current, a manual switch 34 may be included in the lead 33, so that, by opening it, the clutch can be operated by the normal pedal 26 during prolonged light running of the engine. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), further contacts are mounted on the grip of the change-speed lever in parallel with the contacts 35, 36, so that the clutch can be taken out for gear-changing without interrupting the fuel supply.
