Abstract
353,563. Wire and ribbon resistances. AKTIESELSKAPET ELEKTRISK BUREAU, 17, Middlethunsgate, Oslo, Norway. May 9, 1930, No. 14309. Convention date, May 10, 1929. [Class 37.] In a heating apparatus the heat-distribution body itself, or the part thereof in contact with the hardening cement by which the wire is insulated, consists of a substance which is more strongly electronegative than the resistance wire. Electrolytic action does not, in these circumstances, cause destruction or decomposition of the heating wire. As shown in Fig. 1, the heat-distributing body 1 is of cast iron with ribs 4 and a closing plate 5. The heating wire 2, of chrome nickel, is embedded in a mass of insulating cement 3, the portions of the body 1 and plate 5 in contact with this being lined with aluminium 6 or other electronegative metal such as magnesium, chromium, or manganese. Alternatively the body 1 may be formed of one of these substances. In a modification, Fig. 2, the heating ribbon 7 is embedded in insulating cement 3 between a heat-distributing body 1, of an alloy of iron and aluminium, and a plate 5 of metal, ceramic material, porcelain, asbestos, &c., with a lining 6 of aluminium.
