353,267. Making envelopes. WINKLER, A. and DUNNEBIER, M., Neuwied, Germany. Aug. 1, 1930, No. 23285. Convention date, April 9. Addition to 337,329,. [Class 94 (ii), Paper bags &c.]. [Class 94 (ii).] In a machine for making " bulked " or loosely folded envelopes, in which the bottom flap a is folded over by a roller 40 and counter roller 41, the envelope W being deflected upwards by a swinging plate 52 which allows the crease c of the closure flap to enter between a folding roller 53 and the counter roller 41, as described in the parent Specification, a bar d, extending the length of the roller 53, is arranged on the roller in front of a segment which conveys the envelope forwards. The bar has an inclined surface e which slants away towards the centre of the roller and extends to the front edges 57 of the converging segment. By adjusting the position taken up by the crease c in the acute angled space between the surface e and the counter roller 41, the looseness of the fold is adjusted and if the part d of the bar is used, sharp folds may be produced. The bar d is longer than the width of the largest envelope and its surface is flush with those of the ends of the roller and the conveying segment.
