[Classes 30 and 128.] A fruit or other pocketknife, which may be of stainless steel, has only one scale 1, the edge of which is flanged at 10 to protect the blade edge when the knife is closed and to form a stop to limit the extent to which such blade 4 can be opened. The knife is thus readily cleaned and will not collect dirt. The blade and scale may be curved in cross section. The blade is maintained in position by a rivet 7 and washers 8 on both sides of the scale, one of which washers may have lugs 18, 19, Fig. 7, to engage a recess 20 in the flange 10 to lock the blade in open and closed positions. Alternatively, a lug may be formed on the blade, or recesses in the blade may be engaged by a lug on the scale. An additional blade 12 may carry an edge 14 and a stop 15 to act as an incisor for oranges or other fruit, or, if provided with a fulcrum point, will serve as a tin-opener. Alternatively, the incisor may be formed on the end of the scale, Fig. 7, when the stop 15 serves as an additional bladeguard. Fruit incised by the tool 12 may be peeled by a shallow gouge 16, which may, however, be made sufficiently deep to serve as a spoon. A hole may be formed on the scale 1, so that the blade 4 can serve as a cigar-cutter. A corkscrew, a nail file surface 21, and a millimeter or inch scale may be added, and advertising or other matter may be engraved or stamped upon the knife.
