Abstract

352,287. Aircraft wings. BOULTON & PAUL, Ltd., Riverside Works, and NORTH, J. D., Hill House, Eaton Hill, both in Norwich. Aug. 6, 1930, No. 23488. [Class 4.] To prevent relative vertical movements of the two spars of a wing beyond the outermost bracing strut, the top and bottom portions of the relatively deep front spar immediately outside the strut are connected by convergent members E<1>, E<2> to a point on the rear spar near its outer end. The resulting torque of the front spar is resisted by a strong rib or by a second pair of convergent members J<1>, J<2> connected to a point on the rear spar directly behind the connection to the front spar. The members E<1>, E<2>, J<1>, J<2> may converge to single points as shown or they may be spaced apart where they meet the rear spar.
