Abstract
351,766. Gravity-separation apparatus. RIDLEY, A. E., Nevern, Alban Road, Llanelly, Carmarthenshire. July 16, 1930, No. 21504. [Class 111.] For the recovery of oils and grease from bilge, ballast, &c. water, and from water from garages or works, the oil-laden water is led by a pipe B into the first section A<1> of a divided bank A, and passes through slots or perforations in a partition E to the second section A<2>, and then the separated oil passes through or over a second partition G to the third section A<3> which has an oil-discharge pipe L. The upper end of the water-discharge pipe J is arranged in an air snore pipe M, M<1>, and the discharge through the pipe J is controlled by a valve I connected up to a float H. As shown, the first section of the tank has a spreader-cone C and antisplash tray D, the second section has baffles A<4> and deflector plates F, and the third and second sections are connected by a waterreturn pipe K. The tank may be arranged so that the water from a garage &c. drains into it, the parts B, C, D being omitted and the first section being provided with a removable container for trapping solid matter. The valve I may be arranged over the upper end of the valve discharge pipe within the pipe M. Provision may be made for applying heat or steam for liquefying the oil or grease.
