350,259. Baffles in boiler water. FOUNTAIN, H. J., 6, Brim Hill, East Finchley, London. June 24, 1930, No. 19194. [Class 123 (ii).] In steam generators and waterheaters having a vertical or nearly vertical heating surface P fitted with water tubes, e.g. thimble tubes T or open-ended tubes O, there being room for a man to work between the boiler shell and the heating surface, a short baffleplate C is arranged close to the lower part of the heating surface to create an upward current therebetween. A second baffle D mav extend from the bottom of the water space to a little above the bottom edge of the baffle C to prevent cold water from entering the lower tubes. The baffles may be of thin corrugated plate and when the baffle D is dispensed with the corrugations in baffle C conveniently run horizontally to trap steam and heat the baffle to a greater extent.
