Abstract

Viscose artificial silk is desulphurized and bleached in a bath or baths containing available oxygen. The silk may be desulphurized and partly bleached in a partly spent bath, and the bleaching then completed in a fresh bath. In an example, the silk is treated at 60-70 DEG C. in a partly spent bath containing hydrogen peroxide and sodium silicate, rinsed, and then treated at the same temperature in a fresh bath containing the same reagents; the bleached product is weakly acidified and washed again.
