Abstract
349,195. Feeding and winding webs. DECKER, J. W., 60, Broad Street, New York, U.S.A. March 18, 1930, No. 8693. [Class 100 (i).] In a combined stockquotation ticker and optical projecting apparatus, tension is maintained in the tape a, Fig. 1, passing through the projecting apparatus 4 by means of two pairs of tapegripping rollers 15, 16 and 17, 18 which are driven by the tape as it is drawn forward by the rollers 19, 20, the rollers 17, 18 moving at a slightly higher surface speed than the rollers 15, 16. This is obtained by making the roller 18 of slightly larger diameter than the roller 16 and connecting the rollers by a chain 26 so that they rotate at the same angular velocity. The tape passes from the drawing rollers 19, 20 to a winding reel 23, Fig. 3. The shafts of the reel 23 and roller 20 are driven by slipping belts from a shaft 34 driven continuously by an electric motor through belt 39, worm 36, and worm wheel 35. When the ticker 3 ceases to eject tape, the roller 20 draws the tape forward until the loop 57, Fig. 1, of tape between the ticker and projector is taken up, after which the belt driving the roller 20 slips. The reel 23 continues to rotate until a brake block 54, secured to a pivoted arm 22 having a finger 21 resting on the tape, is pressed into engagement with a brake drum 55 on the reel, after which the belt driving the reel also slips.
