Abstract

348,936. Screwing and tapping. WALLIS, B. N., of Vickers (Aviation), Ltd., Byfleet Road, Weybridge, Surrey. June 25, 1930, No. 19347. [Class 83 (iii).] In screw-threading the internal flanges 1a of strengthening sleeves 1 for tubular structures, particularly for aircraft, such as are described in Specification 341,937, and which have the flanges arranged at various angles to the axes of the sleeves, the sleeves are positioned on a templet 45 by means of a support 47 located within an aperture 46 in the templet and having secured thereto a cylindrical member 471 to which is freely pivoted a second cylindrical member 49 engaging the interior of the sleeve. After positioning, the sleeves are clamped to the templet by a cap 52 and two bolts 53, the members 47, 47<1>, 49 are removed, and the sleeves are then tapped at 1b perpendicular to the flange. If the flanges of two sleeves 1 are to be secured directly together in a structure the centres of the pivots 50 are arranged in the surface of the templet, but if members are to be secured between the flanges, packing pieces 51 of half the thickness of the intervening members are placed between the support 47 and the templet.
