Abstract
348,927. Automatic temperature alarms. UNTERHOLZNER, J., 62, Herzogstrasse, Munich, Germany. June 18, 1930, No. 18616. [Class 47 (i).] An automatic temperature alarm, particularly for use in liquids, comprises an airtight float a which is formed at its lower end as a sealed box b with a corrugated diaphragm d and containing a liquid e. The cover carries a toothed rod f in mesh with a lantern wheel h loose on a shaft g. A clutch member i fixed to the wheel h cooperates with a clutch member k fast on the shaft g and fixed to a ratchet wheel y. A spring l holds the clutch members together, and a spiral spring o has one end fixed to the shaft g. The wheel y is connected by a spring pawl to a gear wheel p which cooperates with gears q, r to drive a hammer t against the resonant top u of the float. When the liquid e is heated and evaporates, the rod f rotates the shaft g and winds up the spring o, until an abutment n on the rod engages a flange m on the wheel h, to separate the clutch members i, k. The spring o then unwinds and drives the hammer t. A wire net x limits movement of the cover d. In a modification, the spring o is omitted, the cover d driving the shaft g with a snap action. In another modification, the cover d acts directly, with a snap action, on the hammer. The concentric corrugations of the cover d may be transversely corrugated, to increase its elasticity.
