Abstract
348,309. Ventilation. STEWART, A. W., 150, Helen Street, Govan, Glasgow. March 27, 1930, Nos. 9753,17520 and 38981. [Class 137.] Forced ventilation; ventilating conduits, arrangements of; air, heating and cooling. -Relates to ventilating apparatus comprising an adjustable outlet nozzle applied to twin air ducts or to a divided duct, the nozzle being so arranged that it may be connected to one or other or simultaneously to both ducts or to one duct while the other duct is connected to the enclosure or space being ventilated. A directional nozzle, Fig. 2, such as is described in Specification 203,456, [Class 137, Ventilation], is carried by a socket 4, rotatable in an outer shell 12 mounted in a main air duct, which is divided by a partition 2 into two ducts 7,8. The lateral wall of the socket 4 is formed with ports 5, 6 arranged respectively behind and in front of a transverse diaphragm 11. The shell 12 is formed with a port 13 disposed behind the diaphragm for co-operation with the port 5 and with ports 14, 15, 16 arranged in front of the diaphragm for co-operation with the port 6. Ports 13, 14 are located within the duct 7 and ports 15, 16 within the duct 8, A back-plate 17 fitted to the shell 12 is provided with a segmental opening 18 communicating by an opening 19 in the rear wall of the duct 7 with the enclosure being ventilated. In cold weather the ducts 7, 8 are supplied with hot and cold air respectively and by a rotation of the socket 4 so as to bring the port 6 into co-operation with ports 14, 15, Fig. 7, hot or cold air or a mixture of the two is supplied to the enclosure. In hot weather the socket is rotated so that cold air is supplied from duct 8 by way of ports 6, 16, Fig. 4, while the duct 7 is placed in communication with the enclosure by way of ports 5, 15 and the openings 18, 19 and is used for withdrawing vitiated air for reconditioning and cooling. In a modified arrangement one of the ducts is connected to the discharge of a supply fan and the other to the inlet of an exhaust fan. The air conditioning apparatus shown in Fig. 9, comprises a supply fan 23 and a reversible fan 24 of the type described in Specification 261,182, [Class 110 (i), Centrifugal and screw fans &c.]. In hot weather air is withdrawn from the duct 7, passed through a cooler 25 and water eliminator 26 together with fresh air from a valve-controlled inlet 33 and returned to duct 8 ; in cold weather fresh air is drawn through an inlet 32 and a heater 27 and discharged to the duct 7 while cold fresh air is supplied to duct 8 from an inlet 28. A modified form of conditioning apparatus, Fig. 10, comprises a single fan 41 and a pair of interconnected valves 46, 47 operated by a lever 49. In the hot weather position air is recirculated through a cooler 42 and in the cold weather position fresh air from an inlet 43 is discharged to the ducts 7, 8 in two controlled portions, the former passing through a heater 44. The valve 46 is so arranged that in hot weather a controlled portion of fresh air is admitted at 48. Specification 295,209, [Class 137, Ventilation], also is referred to.
