348,046. Speed indicators. PABESCHITZ, F., 139, Linzerstrasse, Vienna. Dec. 27, 1929, No. 39587. [Class 106 (iii).] A periodic counter type speedometer is operated from a clock-driven switch 18 in the following manner. Firstly the circuit, contact ring 22, contact spring 15, conductor 14, contact spring 13, electromagnetic clutch 5, 6, contact spring 12, conductor 29, electromagnet 23, conductor 28, battery 27, and contact spring 16 is made, by which the drop weight 9 in the form of a rack is driven from the vehicle through the shaft 1, worm gearing 2, 3, and gearing 8, 9 to -rise on the spindle 10 and engage the stop 50 to raise the toothed rack 35 guided in a slot 33 of a plate 34 and rotate the toothed sector 36 fixed to the grooved disc 37 loosely rotatable on a projection 38 of the plate 34 and attached to the spring 39 and having an arcuate slot 41 with which engages a pin 43 fixed on a disc 42 fixed on a journal 44 carrying at one end a pointer 46 and at the other a ratchet wheel 45 which, when the above circuit is made and the electromagnet 23 excited, engages with the pawl 48 and is prevented from anticlockwise rotating. Secondly, whilst the above circuit is still made, the circuit tongue 21, contact spring 17, conductor 25, electromagnet 24, conductor 26, battery 27, contact spring 16 is made, thus causing the spring armature 30 to release the pawl 30<1> from the teeth 31, and allow, if required, the rack 35 to descend under the action of the spring 39 until the stop 50 engages the rising drop weight 9, the toothed sector 36 and disc 37 with slot 41 rotating anticlockwise at the same time. Thirdly, the circuits set out above are interrupted by the contact spring 15 meeting the gap 20 and the contact spring 17 leaving the tongue 21, by which the pawl 30<1> engages with the teeth 31 of the rack 35, the weight 9 descends, and the pawl 48 is pulled out of engagement with the ratchet wheel 45 by the spring 49 to allow a spiral spring 47, one end of which is fastened to the journal 44 and the other end of which is fastened to the toothed sector 36, to rotate if necessary the disc 42 and thus the pointer 46 until the pin 43 engages the end of the slot 41 in the now stationary disc 37. The cycle of operations is now repeated.
