[Class 106 (ii).] A device for testing vehicle brakes comprises a horizontal platform adapted to be driven over by the vehicle wheel, fluid pressure indicating means adapted to hold the indication until released and resisting movement of the platform, and means operated by the wheel for releasing the indicator. The vehicle is run on to four spaced platforms, one for each wheel. Each platform B is provided with slots 14 through which pass bolts 13 which pass through holes in a frame A provided at one end with a shallow box and at the other end with a ramp 16. The platform is adapted to slide on balls 15 in the top of the frame. A depending lug 23 engages the ball end 22 of the shorter arm of a two-armed lever on a pivot 21, the longer arm 20 of which engages the end of a spring plunger 19 in a small cylinder 19<1>. Each cylinder has a pipe 24 leading to a pressure indicator 25 adapted to hold the highest indication reached. In use, the vehicle is run on to the platforms and the brakes applied, causing the platforms to slide and the pistons 19 to compress air in the cylinders. The valve 32 is lifted and air enters the gauge. Just prior to mounting the platforms the vehicle passes over a spring-mounted member E having underneath a projection which is forced against a diaphragm causing air to be compressed in a pipe 42 and a piston 47 to press back the stem 46 of a spring relief valve for the gauge which is placed momentarily in communication with the atmosphere through the port 48. After the readings have been taken, the part E is again depressed by the vehicle in leaving the platforms and the gauges are again momentarily placed into communication with the atmosphere.
