Abstract

347,927. Hot blast stoves ; fluidactuated valves. ZIMMERMANN & JANSEN, GES., Duren, Rhineland, Germany. May 29, 1930, No. 16656. Convention date, Dec. 16, 1929. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii).] In actuating means for valves such as those of hot-blast stoves and like plants adapted to be actuated in succession by fluid pressure acting on pistons If .. 7f which also control the flow of the pressure medium to the succeeding actuating cylinders, piston valves 2b .. 7b are provided between the various actuating cylinders le .. 7e and are operated by the pressure medium itself to control the flow of the pressure medium to and from the actuating cylinders. Compressed air passes through a four-way cock C and a pipe 1d to the first controlling cylinder 1a, forces the piston valve 1b upwardly opening communication with the left-hand end of the first actuating cylinder 1e through a pipe 2d, and forces the piston 1f to the right closing the valve 1. The space to the right of the piston 1f is put into connection with the atmosphere through a pipe 15g. When the valve 1 is fully closed a pipe 3d becomes uncovered and the air passes to the controlling. cylinder 2a. The valves 1 .. 7 are thus actuated in succession the pipes 4d .. 15d being arranged so that the valves 2, 3 are closed and the valves 5 .. 7 opened. On reversal of the cock C the compressed air passes by a pipe 1g to the controlling cylinder 7a and the valves are actuated in reversed order, the pipes shown in broken lines becoming operative. The pipe 7d from the third actuating cylinder 3e is connected with the succeeding controlling cylinder 4a through a separate valve or through additional passages in the cock C so that by turning the cock into the position shown in Fig. 3 the operation may be stopped when the valve 3 is closed.
