Abstract

347,828. Cowsheds; stables. PATMORE, C., Medcalf Dairy Farm, Enfield Lock, Middlesex. March 19, 1930, No. 8799. [Class 20 (i).] The gutter provided at the rear of the stalls of a cowshed or stable for the reception of the droppings is provided with a mechanical scraper which constantly discharges the contents into a collecting receptacle. The scraper D is dome-shaped with spring ends for scraping the sides of the gutter and is attached by means of an arm E<1> to a flexible chain E positioned in a groove E<2> in the side of the gutter and driven continuously from a motor E<5>. An aperture B<1> is provided at one end through which the matter is discharged into a receptacle G and a grating B<2> is provided over an outlet B<3> for drainings at the other end, the floor of the stable sloping downwardly towards the drainage end. Inclined ends C<1> covered by gratings C<3> are provided at the rear ends of the stalls to facilitate gravitation of the droppings toward the gutters, and these gratings are provided with frames C<4> capable of reciprocation by hand or by the feet of the animal to clear them. A cover-plate E<6> may be provided at the lower edge of the gutter recess to protect the driving-chain, and beaters F may be attached 'to the chain just in front of the scraper to cause the animal to move when causing obstruction. Suitable scrapers or squeegees may be provided for attachment to the driving-chain for use in clearing the passages between the rows of stalls.
