Abstract

A chewing-gum base is made from rubber latex or other rubber dispersion, cumarone resin or a mixture thereof, with other resins, and hydrogenated oil, e.g. hydrogenated peanut, soyabean, cotton seed, sesame or rape oil. The resin and oil are pulverized, added to the latex and mixed cold, and then the mixing is continued with heat to drive off the water. The latex may be diluted with water before the addition of the other ingredients, and cocoa powder may be added to the resin. In an example 100 parts of latex of 35 per cent rubber content are diluted with 50 parts of water, and 7 parts of cocoa powder, 85 parts of powdered cumarone resin, and 105 parts of powdered hydrogenated vegetable oil, are added in a steam-jacketed mixing machine which is first worked cold and then at a temperature of 110 DEG C. for about two hours. The base is converted into chewing gum by the addition of flavouring material, sugary material, filler, medicating agent, &c.ALSO:A chewing-gum base is made from rubber latex or other rubber dispersion, cumarone resin or a mixture thereof with other resins, and hydrogenated oil, e.g. hydrogenated peanut, soya bean, cotton seed, sesame, or rape oil.
