Abstract

Apparatus for making filaments.-To avoid loosening and displacement of the outer layers of thread, particularly at the end faces of the cakes, the spun cakes, instead of being slipped on rods for drying, are placed in upright position upon a support and are dried in this position. The support may be of the form shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings of the parent Specification, the cake resting upon a soft washer of felt, hide, plush, &c. during drying. To permit the warm air to pass into the interior of the cake, the support is provided with one or more perforations. An elastic sleeve is preferably inserted into the cake.
