Abstract
347,058. Stop valves. KARNATH, K., 6, Bismarckstrasse, Zweibrucken, Bavaria, Germany. June 23, 1930, No. 19105. Convention date, June 24, 1929. [Class 135.] Closure members, dual ; actuating-mechanism.-A parallel disc stop valve is provided with controlling mechanism having separate parts (cams) whereby the valve discs are actuated individually but simultaneously for retraction from their seats, the discs being slidingly coupled with each other for swinging into positions parallel with the direction of flow so that by swinging one disc the other is also swung. The discs 3, 3a, Fig. 1, are forced on their seatings in the closed position by cams 6, 6a, and withdrawn individually by double cams 8, 8a, being afterwards swung round by a cam 13 and a pivoted goose-neck arm 10 engaging an upstanding projection 11. In order to provide for slow opening and rapid closing movements the spindle is formed in two parts 2, 22 which are connected by a planetary reducing-gear, this gear being operative only for opening. In this case the hand-wheel 29 screws up to the top of the outer spindle 22 and a catch lever 33 engages the pinion housing 19 with the valve casing 21. The rotation of the wheel 29 thereupon operates through the gear train 23 .. 26, the latter engaging the toothed crown 27 and rotating the casing 18 and lower spindle 2 slowly. For closing the valve the wheel 29 first runs down the outer spindle 22 and releases the catch lever 33, thereby freeing the pinion housing 19 so as to rotate with the wheel 29; the casing 18 and lower spindle 2 then rotate with the same speed as the hand-wheel to the closed position.
