346,968. Centrifugal pumps. HOLDEN & BROOKE, Ltd. and BROOKE, R. W., Sirius Works, West Gorton, Manchester. March 28, 1930, No. 9942. [Class 110 (i).] Regulating or controlling.-A valve reduces the effective aperture of the discharge pipe as the fluid pressure is reduced so that the pump works against a constant pressure head. As shown in Fig. 1 the valve may comprise a cylindrical head 6 which slides within a fixed guide 3 and a spring 10 which tends to close the valve against the fluid pressure. The spring pressure can be adjusted by rotation of a cam 12 which moves the rear abutment 11 of the spring. In the construction shown in Fig. 2 the head is sttached to a piston 6a which is free to slide within a liner 13a and upon a stationary member 14. A weighted lever 16 is attached to the piston and the fluid is admitted to the interior through a channel 19. In this case the working area of the piston is reduced to the difference between the area of member 14 and the liner 13a. The loading of the valve may be effected by two external springs which act through suitable levers. In the modification shown in Fig. 4 the head 26 of a spring loaded piston is connected by a link 28 to a wing valve 27 in the discharge pipe.
