Abstract
An insulating material resembling natural mica is obtained by mixing aluminium oxide or hydroxide, potassium silicate and water to a thick paste and, after setting, heating the material to reduce the water content approximately to that of natural mica. Asbestos in powdered or fibrous form may be added before setting. The aluminium oxide or hydroxide is finely powdered and the silicate may be powdered, or in solution. Superfluous water may be removed and the material shaped by pressure before setting.ALSO:An insulating material resembling natural mica is obtained by mixing aluminium oxide or hydroxide, potassium silicate and water to a thick paste and, after setting, heating the material to reduce the water content approximately to that of natural mica. Asbestos in powdered or fibrous form may be added before setting. The product in powdered form may be added to vitreous enamel fluxes. The aluminium oxide or hydroxide is finely powdered and the silicate may be powdered, or in solution. Superfluous water may be removed and the material shaped by pressure before setting.
