Abstract
345,901. Switch contacts. INTERNATIONAL GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Inc., 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts-Ges. ; 2, Friedrich Karl Ufer, Berlin.) June 27, 1930, No. 19617. Convention date, June 28, 1929. [Class 38 (v).] Electric contacts comprise one or more strips of relatively rare and not readily oxidizable metal of high vapourizing temperature, secured by wedging or dovetailing to a block of cheaper material of sufficient size for conducting of the heat. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a wedge-shaped strip of silver s is dovetailed into a massive copper contact-piece k carried on a resilient finger f. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the strip of silver s is held fast to the copper piece k by means of a wedge-shaped member m and a bolt r. This enables the strip s to be readily replaced. A number of parallel strips of silver mounted on one block in the same way may be used. The contact blocks may be produced by drawing the rare metal and the support together in rods, which are subsequently cut into blocks.
