345,872. Fishing reels. ALLCOCK & CO., Ltd., S. and COTON, W., Standard Works, Redditch, Worcestershire. May 10, 1930, Nos. 14422 and 29596. [Class 48.] A braking device for the drum of a fishing reel comprises a line-operated lever a, a rotatable cam d, a spring plunger m and a brake l. In the normal position of the cam d, as shown in Fig. 2, the plunger m exerts sufficient pressure on the brake l to produce a slight braking effect. Additional braking effect is obtained by operation of a finger lever j<4>. When the line is pulled the lever a is depressed against the action of a spring g and the consequent rotation of the cam d releases the pressure of the brake pawl d<2> against the edge of the drum. A tooth n is provided which can be moved in a slot to engage a ratchet on the drum. A recess r, Fig. 4, accommodates the mechanism and the axial mounting of the cam d on the drum axle e. The tension of the spring g can be varied by a screw i and block h and in the second Provisional Specification it is stated that the block h is visible to indicate light, medium or heavy power in the spring g.
