Abstract
345,502. Casting-machines. POSSENTI, A., 23, Lungomare, Nazario Sauro, and SCORZA, C., 159, Via Andrea Costa, both in Pesaro, Italy. March 28, 1930, No. 9977. Convention date, April 4, 1929. [Class 83 (i).] Metal-pouring.-A machine for the centrifugal casting of pipes &c. is provided with vertically movable members 16, Figs. 4 and 5, which are adapted to lower a mould 11 on to supporting rollers 8 and, by means of links 18, levers 20<1>, and rollers 22, hold it firmly. After casting, the members 16 are raised, by fluidoperated pistons 45, until again in line with rails 24, hinged portions 25 being used to bridge the gap. The rollers 8 &c. may be carried by a stationary frame or by a carriage 2, Fig. 2, which is moved on a straight or bent, inclined track 1 by a piston-rod 5 pivoted thereto. The mould is rotated by a motor 27 through belt gearing 28, 29, 30, and a. feathered shaft 31 carrying a disc with projecting pins 34 which can be moved to engage the mould by a handoperated screw 38. The device can be used to deal with a number of moulds at the same time by increasing the length of the member 16, the levers 20<1> carrying the mould-engaging rollers 22 if only two moulds but engaging a vertically movable beam 49, Fig. 8, if more than two. Each mould rests on the usual pairs of rollers 8 and the beam 49, which can be retained in raised position by a catch 52, carries rollers 22 to engage each mould. Guard plates 23 may be attached to the levers 201 to avoid projection of metal from a broken mould. Permanent moulds or chills may be employed or they may be lined with earth or sand.
