[Class 64 (ii).] In steam heating systems for railway carriages using radiators free from pressure, and each thermostatically controlled, the radiators are connected to a common line pipe which is branched from the main steam pipe and in service is under the same conditions of pressure and temperature as the main steam pipe. Steam flows through the main pipe a and the line pipe b to be distributed through inlet valves 5 into the heating pipes 9 of the radiators c and from thence to the thermostats 7. Condensate flows through openings 10 to the drain pipes e. The latter may for part of their lengths be in close proximity to the line pipe or they may lead to a common drain pipe parallel to the line pipe.
