[Classes 69 (ii) and 135.] A distributing valve b, Fig. 2, for controlling the connection of a hydraulic machine duct e with the inlet c and exhaust d, is held in the position shown by pressure liquid passing from an inlet c<1> through conduits o, p to act on an auxiliary piston g and one end of the distributing valve. Movement of a lever n operates members i, k to put the conduit o or p to exhaust and cause the valve b to move into one or other of its end positions. The arrangement may be modified to control a press and intensifier, the conduit o being replaced by a connection e<2>, Fig. 4, with the duct e, and the latter being connected to the hollow intensifier piston t. In the position shown, the large cylinder r of the intensifier is put to exhaust through a conduit q, and the press cylinder u exhausts through the duct e, part of the liquid passing to the intensifier cylinder s. The lever n is then placed in the position shown in Fig. 5, whereupon the valve b moves to allow low pressure liquid to pass from the inlet c into the press cylinder. The return of the lever to its Fig. 4 position causes the valve b to move into contact with the auxiliary piston g. A further movement of the lever into the position shown in Fig. 6 allows water to flow through the conduit q and operate the intensifier.
