Abstract
344,901. Mercury - vapour rectifiers, AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE, Baden, Switzerland. Nov. 5, 1929, No. 33617. Convention date, Nov. 8, 1928. [Class 39 (i).] In mercury-vapour rectifiers with vertical anode sleeves e, Fig. 1, and with a compartment m surrounding each anode stem, passages are arranged between the compartment m, the space n around the anode inside the sleeve e and the space outside the sleeve e so that mercury vapour rises from the space n to the compartment m and then passes out into the space outside the sleeve e either as vapour or condensed liquid. An upward extension f of the sleeve e connecting it to the metal wall d is provided with side apertures g. Screens h, f<1> on the anode stem and on the extension f slope downwardly towards the sleeve e. The insulator c may be protected from radiation from the anode stem by a sleeve around the stem. The parts f, f<1>, h may be of metal or insulating material and the opening g may form a siphon-like overflow, as in Fig. 4, to the gutter formed by the screen f<1>. The openings g may be replaced by spouts and these spouts or the flange p, Fig. 4, extend radially so that falling mercury is well spaced from the sleeve e and is delivered at parts where other condensed mercury drops. The extension f, Fig. 1, may carry a further screen similar to the screen f<1> and above the screen h and may have additional perforations above this further screen. An additional screen similar to the screen h is then arranged on the anode shank above this further screen.
