Abstract

343,657. Motor vehicle steering-gear. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Apollo Magneto Corporation; 85, Grand Street, Kingston, New York, U.S.A.) Dec. 23, 1929, No. 39242. [Class 79 (v).] A steering damper comprises a clamp 1, 2 adapted to be attached to the axle 4, a link member 12 secured to the clamp, and a friction element 14 pivotally supported on the link and adapted to contact with the track rod 20. The clamp is in two parts connected together and to the axle by one or more bolts 5. One of the jaws is formed with an extension 11 having serrations engaged by similar serrations 18 on the slotted link 12 which is adjustably secured to the jaw by bolts 17 in such a position that when the steering wheels are in the straight-ahead position the member 14 acts as a brake on the track rod, whereas when the steering wheels are deflected for steering the track rod moves away from the member 14. The link 12 and the member 14 are connected by a bolt 15 so as to allow free pivotal movement. The jaws 1, 2 are wider than the extension 11, and this extension is formed with side flanges 9 to prevent lateral movement of the link. A construction of clamp adapted to be secured to a round axle is described.
