Abstract

343,085. Air filters; vacuum cleaning- apparatus. STONE & CO., Ltd., J., Deptford, and VIDAL, J. F. B., 18, Brandram Road, Lewisham, both in London. Nov. 13, 1929, No. 34680. [Classes 8 (i) and 8 (ii).] In a ventilating installation for railway vehicles &c. a filter e is provided in the intake and is cleaned by a suction head k rotatable over the outer surface, the suction producing and the driving means being located on the inner side and connected to the head k by a hollow shaft n. The filter is circular and its periphery is secured to the end wall of the coach by a clamping ring h; it is seated on a ring g supporting a central ring g<1> by arms. The hollow shaft rotates on ball bearings q within a dust tight casing o supported by a bracket p. The shaft and a bent tube m connecting it to the head are formed with flanges n<1>, ml embracing the inner edge of the filter and the ring g<1>. The shaft is driven by bevel wheels t, y from a driving shaft z. The interior of the casing o, and the end of the hollow shaft n are open to a suction pipe v. A brush 1 may be secured to the suction head to disturb the dust. An external shield may protect the filter. The shaft z may be driven from the suction fan to which the pipe v leads. Alternatively separate motors may drive the fan and the shaft n; the shaft motor being mounted on the casing o or otherwise. A pump may be substituted for the fan. A vacuum cleaning installation may in addition be operated from this pump or fan. According to the Provisional Specification the suction head may be reciprocated or oscillated.
