Abstract

283,173. Soc. Anon. pour l'Equipment Electrique des Vehicules. Jan. 6, 1927, [Convention date]. Vacuum cleaners. - The body of a vacuum cleaner is mounted on a supporting cradle at a definite inclination to the horizontal. The casing 6 is supported on a cradle or support of steel wire. This cradle may take a variety of forms which enable the casing to be supported in an inclined or vertical position. The cradle 40 may also be shaped as shown in Fig. 4 to permit the casing to rock to a limited degree. The casing, Fig. 1, contains a dust bag 7 distanced by a spring 8 and secured by a spring 9, an electric motor 4 driving a fan 5 a suction pipe 2 and exhaust pipe 3. The Specification as open tn inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that means for regulating the pressure in the suction chamber are provided and comprise an air vent 15, Fig. 2 (Cancelled), controlled by a rotatable shutter 16. this end may also be achieved by providing an adjustable flap valve in the exhaust pipe 3; other forms of sliding or screw down valves may be substituted for the rotatable shutter 16; the section nozzle is provided with a depending annular flange which ensures that all the air drawn into the nozzle passes through the brush where the bristles are in contact with the surface being cleaned. In instances where it is desirable to supply pressure air to the suction nozzle to effect a preliminary stirring of the dust a distributing valve is provided which enables the nozzle to be connected alternatively to the suction or pressure sides of the fan. A cylindrical caging 42, Fig. 22 (Cancelled), is provided with lateral ducts 2, 3 leading to the respective sides of the fan and orifices 48, 49 open to the atmosphere. The central duct 45 leads to the nozzle. A cylindrical valve 50 slides axially in the chamber 42 and is provided with a partition 53 and with orifices 55, 56 in communication with the ducts 3, 2 and with two other openings 51, 52 which align with the openings 48 and the duct 45, or with the duct 45 and the opening 49 in the respective extreme positions of the valve. The movement of the valve to effect the change in the nozzle from suction to pressure is effected by a wire 61 secured to a bell crank lever 60 which is operated by a Bowden wire secured to a lever mounted adjacent to the nozzle. The clack valves mounted on a swinging arm may be employed in place of the sliding valve, and in this case the Bowden wire may be placed inside the suction tube. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
