To all whom it ma concern:
Be it known t at I, HABLEN L. Bim, a citizen of the United States, residin at Salem, in the counti,T of Harrison and tate of West Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dust-Collectors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved dust collector for use in connection with a 'grinding machine such as is used by dentists, )ewelers, and others, the object of the invention being to provide an improved machine of this character that is sim le in construction, is compact, which can e readily manufactured at low cost and which has powerful suction and also serves to separate heavy dust, and other heavy particles from light dust. I The invention consists in the features of construction, combination, and arrangement of devices, hereinafter fully described and claimed. c
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a dust collector constructed and arranged in accordance with m invention and showing the same mounte on a jewelers stand.

Referrin especiall to the Vform of the invention s own in igs. 1, 2 and 3, my improved dust collector comprises a pair of vertical tubes 1, 2, respectively provided at their lower ends with detachab e tra closures 4. The piple 1 is provided on its inner side with a orizontally arranged arm 5. The tube 2 is provided on its inner side with a similar horizontal arm 6. A. conduit 7 is detachably fitted in the arm 5 and is provided at turned elbow 8 which `is detachabl fitted on the vertical arm 9 of a conduit 1 Said conduit 10 is detachably fitted at its outer end in the arm 6 and is comiected at its inner end to the casing 11 of a revoluble sucbut may its inner end with a downY tion fan 12. Said suction fan casing is secured to one side of the stand or other support 14 and is provided on its lower side with a discharge arm 15 to which a dust collecting bag collectin bag hanging from the discharge arm of t e fan casing. Hoods, 17 18 which are ari-an over the emery wheels or other grinding elements 19 20, are provided at their lower sides with arms 21, 22 which are res ectively detachablv fitted in the upper en s'of the vertical tubes 1, 2. The said emery wheels are revoluble grinding elements, bulers, brushes, or the like and are on opposite ends of the shaft 23 of a motor 24, w ich is preferably an electric motor be a motor of any suitable type and which is secured on the upper side of the stand as shown. The said motor shaft also has a pulley 25 which is connected by an endless belt 26, to a pulley 27 on the shaft 28 ofthe suction fan and hence the motor which drivesy the eme wheels,

ing or cleaning elements, also serves to drive the suction fan as will be understood.
A valve 28 is pivotally mounted as at 29 in the conduit 10 and may be turned to close either tlie arm 9 or the arm 6 and thus permit the suction fan to suck air from either the hood 17 or the hood 18, as' will be understood.
Dust and .the like material may thus be sucked b the exhausted current in air from either o the grinding, olishing, cleaning, or bufling elements. he light dust and lighter particles pass through the conduit 10 into the fan casing and drop from the latter through its arm 15 into the bag 16. Such hea particles as may enter the upper end of eit er of the tubes 1, 2, will drop directly down through said tube and be caught in the trap vessel 3 or 4, as the case mzy be.
n the form of the invention shown in Fig. 4, in which the same is especially adapted for use on a dental table 30, there is only one vertical tube 37, provided at its lower end with a detachable trap closure 38 and provided, at the upper end with a hood 39 that serves to throw the dust down in the vertical suction pipe. The horizontal conduit is indicated at 40 discharging into the exhaust fan casing 41, and the vertical arm 42 of said pipe is closed by a cap 43. The valve 44 is normally held in open position.

To enable the fan casing to be attached directly to the stand instead of to the suction conduitz the form pf the fan casing 11 7 is rovided with feet 54, which ma be screw or bolted to the stand.
From the fore oing description, taken in connection with t e accompanying drawin the advantages of construction and of t e method of operation will be readily a parent to those skilled in the art to whic the and while I have described lted to the flan e 58 at the outer end of the conduity the llrinciples of operation of the device t er with the device which I now consi er to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such may be made when desired as are within the scope of the claim appended hereto.
I'Iavin described the invention, what is claimed is:
A dust collector of the' class described, comprising a pair of vertical tubes each having an elbow at a goint intermediate its ends, a dust trap at t e lower end of each of said tubes, a conduit detachabl at one end to the elbow of one o said tubes, said conduit having an arm at a point intermediate its ends and being also provided with a valve to close across said conduit or said arm at will, a suction fan having a casing directly connected to the other end of said conduit and into which the latter discharges, a dust collecting receptacle connected to and carried b the fan casing and into which Vthe latter ischarges, and a second conduit detachably fitted at one end to the elbow of the other vertical tube and having an elbow at the opposite end connected to the arm of the first-named conduit.
