[Class 81 (ii).] Apparatus for reproducing and measuring the areas and contours of sections of solid objects such as the human foot comprises a tracer member so mounted on a carrier that relative movement between the object and the tracer member may take place about a centre substantially coincident with the centre of the particular section to be measured and reproduced. The wheel 19 shown in Fig. 1 is used for measuring perimeters and is removed and a point 14, Fig. 4, is substituted for it when a sectional area is to be measured and reproduced. An adjustable knee rest 3 and a heel pad 25 are provided together with an adjustable toe support 6. The tracing point 14 is secured to an arm 13 mounted on an upright 8 rotatably arranged in a frame 5 which can be turned about a bearing 7. The arm 13 can slide but not rotate on the upright 8, which may be graduated. An arm 10 is hinged at 9 to the upright 8 and carries at its end a pen 11 which bears on graph paper secured to a fixed table 12 provided with datum lines 40. A planimeter wheel 31 is mounted between two brackets 30 secured to the arm 10. The pen 11 is situated vertically below the tracing point 14, so that as the frame 5 is rotated about its bearing 7, the point 14 being kept in contact with the foot by a spring (not shown) the pen reproduces and the planimeter measures the area of the desired section. The arm 10 may be raised about its hinge 9 and maintained, by means not shown, in its raised position. When a perimeter is being measured by the disc 19, the planimeter and recording pen are ineffective.
