Abstract

Dibenzanthrone derivatives.-Vat dyes containing sulphur and chlorine are obtained by treating dibenzanthrone, isodibenzanthrone and derivatives thereof with sulphur chloride S2Cl2 in presence of a metal halide condensing agent. According to examples, dibenzanthrone and isodibenzanthrone are each treated with sulphur chloride and aluminium chloride, to give blue dyes for cotton. Trichlordibenzanthrone, obtained by chlorination in trichlorbenzene, and dichlorisodibenzanthrone, obtained according to Specification 7931/09, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], are also specified as parent materials.
