Abstract

342,372. Paper tubes. WINDMÍLLER & HÍLSCHER GES., Lengerich, Westphalia, Germany. Nov. 5, 1929, No. 33648. Convention date, Nov. 24, 1928. [Class 99 (ii).] A machine for making paper tubes for forming bags from a continuous paper web consists essentially of folding cylinders 2, 3 provided with engaging blades 14, 15 and tongs 17, 18 respectively, a reciprocating doffer 4, and a folder 5. The web is fed between the cylinders 2, 3, after being cut into suitable lengths by cutters disposed to the right of the cylinders, and the doffer 4, which serves to detach the leading edge of the paper length from the cylinder 3, is drawn away from the cylinders when the forward end 13 of the paper length 1 arrives in position over the folder 5. At about the same time the folder blade 14 coacts with the tongs 17, Fig. 2, to form a crease in the paper, and the tongs grip the paper and carry it forward to the position shown in Fig. 3, where the folder 5 turns the forward end over on to the succeeding portion. Shortly afterwards the second blade 15 contacts with the paper and forces it into the tongs 18 to form a second crease, Fig. 4. At the same time the tongs 17 are opened by a controlling eccentric to release the leading folded edge 20 and allow it to contact with bands 22 which travel from right to left as shown and tend to carry the paper with them. When the tongs 18 reach the position shown in Fig. 6 the undersurface of the rear edge 21, which has been pasted by a pasting device 16 on the cylinder 2, applies itself to the front part 13, and the tube so formed is gripped between the roller 3 and a delivery belt 23 travelling from left to right, the tongs 18 being released and the pasted seam being well pressed down during this stage.
