Abstract

341,845. Sound-reproducing apparatus associated with kinematographs. BLUM, C. R., 54, Badenschestrasse, Sch÷ne. berg, Berlin. Sept. 19, 1929, No. 28475. [Class 40 (ii).] A motion-picture projector, a sound-reproducing apparatus and a rhythm-band apparatus have their driving motors interconnected and the rhythmband apparatus is driven synchronously with the sound record so that by observing the rhythm-band and the projected picture or the film a visible indication is given of the relative positions of the picture film and the sound record. As shown in Fig. 3, a projector 8 is driven by a motor 7 the speed of which can be controlled by a regulating resistance 9<1>. Motors 13, 15 driving the rhythm-band 4 and a sound reproducer 14 are arranged in parallel and are driven in synchronism, the circuit for the motors 13, 15 being connected to a battery 11 and a make-and-break device 10 driven by the projector 8 or motor 7. The sound reproducer may have two turntables 36, 37, Fig. 4, driven by a motor 42. The turntables are raised to engage the records with the reproducers by levers 43, 44, which are controlled by electromagnets 45, 46. Each turn, table spindle 40, 41 carries a contact 55, 56- adapted, when the turntable is raised, to engage a fixed contact 57, 58, once per revolution and thus energize a magnet 53, Fig. 7. The latter controls an armature 52 to permit a ratchet wheel 51 to move a distance of one tooth. Each ratchet wheel spindle 50 has an indicator finger 49, 61, Fig. 8, movable over a graduated dial 47, 48. The fingers 49, 61 thus indicate the number of played-out grooves of the records. The fingers 49, 61, coact with pairs of contacts 59, 60, in the circuits of the electromagnets 45, 46, so that when the record on one turntable has been played that turntable is lowered and the other turntable is raised. The contacts 59, 60, may be arranged so that for a short period prior to changing from one record to another both records are being played together. If the kinematograph film should break, the apparatus is stopped and the repaired film is threaded through the film gate. The contact device 10, Fig. 3, is then thrown out of the motor circuits and a hand contact device 63, Fig. 5, substituted. Operation of the device 63 causes the rhythm-band apparatus and the sound reproducer to move together while the kinematograph film is stationary until the rhythm-band and kinematograph film are in corresponding positions. To facilitate adjustment the rhythm-band and the film may have corresponding markings. A device such as 63 is more fully described in Specification 339,941. Specification 13235/09, [Class 40 (ii), Phonographs &c.], also is referred to.
