Abstract
341,527. Photo-electric cells. ARCTURUS RADIO TUBE CO., 260, Sherman Avenue, Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Ruben, S. ; 801, Riverside Drive, New York, U.S.A.) Oct. 17, 1929, No. 31599. Convention date, Oct. 18, 1928. [Class 39 (i).] A photo-electric cell has a thermionic cathode and a light-sensitive control electrode having its surface formed of a light-sensitive compound of the oxygen series of the sixth periodic group, for example silver sulphide or selenide, or molybdenum sulphide. As shown the cell has a filament cathode 1, an anode 2 and a control electrode A of copper sensitized as already described. Variations in light to which the control electrode is exposed produce variations in the resistance and consequently, in the potential of the electrode. The necessary crystalline structure of the compound may be obtained by heating the metal in a vapour such as sulphur, selenium or tellurium. A high resistance electrode, with large crystals, may be produced by slow cooling.
