[Class 74 (ii).] Pattern mechanism for controlling other pattern mechanism or for performing other operations in connection with mechanical knitting comprises a set of feelers 12 selected by perforations in a travelling band 11 and a corresponding set of sliders 16 each of which is latched against movement or unlatched by a feeler. The sliders when freed are moved by springs to operative positions where they are again latched. The rise 128 of a cam 28 acting on a follower 29 carried by an arm 30 causes a projection 125 thereon to engage a pin 33 and thereby raise a gate 31 until the notches thereon register with the sliders 16. A continuation of the movement operates a bail 25 to reset such sliders 16 as have been previously selected. A vertical rise 37 then engages a follower 6 6 and clears the feelers 12 from the perforations in the band 11 by lifting a plate 14 on which they rest. A follower 48 is next engaged whereby a sector 45 is rocked and a pawl 41 advances the platen 10 one step. The plate 14 is then released to allow the ends of the feelers 12 to drop on or through the band and the surfaces 328, 428 allow the bail to recede, and permits the sliders 16 corresponding to the selected feelers to move endwise unc.er influence of their springs. When the follower 29 runs off the continuation cam 428 the bail comes out far enough to allow the gate 31 to drop and lock the sliders in their innermost and outermost portions according to selection.
