[Class 68 (i).] In a dredger comprising vertical side members between which a door or scraper is pivoted and operated by connections with the haulage cables &c. so that the door is closed when the device is moved in one direction, and opened in the opposite direction of movement, the door or scraper is attached by one or more cables to the smaller part of a drum or the equivalent while the rear haulage cable, or one or more auxiliary cables, are attached to a larger part of the drum. As shown, side members 1 are connected by diagonal stays and supported on skids 3, which may be interchangeable ; a door or scraper 4 is pivoted at 5 to vertical members 6 and may have a renewable cutting edge. Metal &c. sides 7 extend back to the door. A differential winding drum 8, 9, has the large parts 8 connected by cables &c. 10, 11 to the rear haulage cable 12 and the small parts 9 connected by cables &c. 13, 14, to the door whereby the latter may be raised. Further cables 28, 29 connect the cable 12 to the device to move the latter rearwardly. Cables 15, 16 attached to side lugs 17 on the door, extend through openings 20 in the sides 7 to the front haulage cable 19 whereby the door may be closed. Brakes, such as hand brakes 21, 22, may be provided on the winding drum. A cable 23 connects the front and rear cables 19, 12, so that one is raised when the other is pulled ; guide rollers such as 24, 26, may be provided. A wooden top may be provided. The cables at either end may be connected by a clip, Figs. 4 and 5, comprising a bent plate between the jaws 35, 36, of which eyepieces 34 may be placed and secured by bolts &c. 33 ; at the bend, a recess 38 is provided to receive eyepiece 39 which is secured by pin &c. 40. The clip is curved near the bend to form a skid.
