Abstract

Unspecified types of dyes, dyeing with; cellulose esters or ethers, dyeing; dye preparations; cellulose carboxylates; cellulose ethers.-The fastness of dyeings, and especially the fastness to the combined agencies of light and acid of dyeings with anthraquinone colouring matters containing free amino, alkylamino, or arylamino groups, is increased by incorporating in the materials, before, after, or during their colouration one or more alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl derivatives of urea, thiourea or guanidine, and retaining such derivatives in the materials during any subsequent treatment. Specified derivatives are tetramethylthiourea, sym-diisoamylthiourea, sym-dibenzylthiourea, tetramethylurea, sym-diisoamylurea, and sym-dimethylguanidine. The use of soluble condensation products of aldehydes with urea, or of derivatives containing a cyclic urea, thiourea, or guanidine residue is excluded. The invention is applicable to the colouration of textile materials in general and especially such as are made of or contain cellulose esters or ethers. Inorganic compounds having an alkaline reaction, e.g. sodium carbonate, borax, disodium hydrogen phosphate, sodium acetate, sodium palmitate, and potassium oleate may be applied separately from or simultaneously with the urea, &c. derivatives, preferably during colouration or during a finishing or other after treatment. The urea, &c. derivatives may be applied in solution, or absorbed from aqueous solutions of their salts, urea, &c. derivatives may be applied in solution, or absorbed from aqueous solutions of their salts, e.g. the hydrochlorides, or applied as dispersions, e.g. such as produced by the methods of Specifications 219,349, 224,925, 242,393, 242,711, 269,960, 273,819, 273,820, 322,737, and 323,788, [all in Class 15 (ii), Dyeing, Processes &c. for]. Dye preparations containing the urea, &c. derivatives together with the colouring matters, preferably in dispersed form, may be employed. In the application to artificial materials, particularly cellulose ester or ether materials, the urea, &c. derivatives may be incorporated in the spinning solutions. The following examples are specified. (1) A cellulose acetate knitted fabric is dyed for 1 1/2 hrs. at 75-80 DEG C. in a bath containing a turkey red oil dispersion of 1 : 4-dimethylaminoanthraquinone and sym-diisoamylthiourea. (2) A cellulose acetate woven fabric dyed with a : a 1-diaminochrysazin is passed through a solution of tetramethylthiourea. The subject-matter of Specifications 323,501 and 323,785, [both in Class 15 (ii), Dyeing, Processes &c. for], is disclaimed. Specifications 132,283, 154,334, 164,386, and 315,766, [all in Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.], also are referred to.
