Abstract

Unspecified types of dyes, dyeing with; cellulose esters, dyeing; textile materials, treating with liquids; dye preparations; cellulose carboxylates.--The fastness of colourations, produced with dyestuffs other than anthraquinone dyestuffs on materials, such as films, filaments, threads or fabrics, made of or containing animal or vegetable fibres or cellulose esters, is improved by incorporating in the materials, before, during or after their colouration, bases of the general formula-- <FORM:0361381/IV/1> in which R is an aralkyl group, R1 is an aromatic residue and R2 is hydrogen or an organic residue, such bases taking no part in the production of colouring matter on the materials. The amount of the base incorporated is preferably 0,5-2 per cent based on the weight of the material and the use of such large amounts as are necessary to prevent slipping, splitting or laddering in woven or knitted fabrics (cf. Specification 280,990, [Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.]) is excluded. Specified bases are benzylethylaniline, benzylmethylaniline and their homologues and nuclear substitution products. Specified dyestuffs are the azo dyes of Specifications 319,390, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], and 343,502, e.g. the blue to violet azo dyes, p-nitroamines such as 3 : 5-dinitro-2-aminoanisol or 5-nitro-2-aminoanisol --> a -naphthylamine or an N-oxyalkyl or other N-substituted derivative thereof. Other substances capable of improving the fastness, such as the ureas, thioureas and guanidines of Specifications 340,572, or the compounds of Specification 340,541 and/or compounds having an alkaline reaction due to an inorganic base, such as sodium carbonate, borax, disodium hydrogen phosphate, sodium acetate, sodium palmitate or sodium oleate, may be incorporated separately from or simultaneously with the aralkylated aromatic base. The bases may be applied in the form of aqueous solutions of the bases of their salts or in the form of aqueous dispersions produced, for example, by the methods of Specifications 219,349, 224,925, 242,393, 242,711, 269,960, 273,819, 273,820, 322,737, or 323,788, [all in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.]. In the application to artificial materials, particularly materials made of or containing cellulose esters, the base may be incorporated in the spinning solutions used. Specification 243,841, [Class 15 (ii), Dyeing, Processes &c. for], also is referred to. The Provisional Specification includes also the application to materials made of or containing cellulose ethers.
