Abstract

Colour reserves under vat dyeings are obtained by means of ester salts of leuco vat dyes with the aid of the process of Specification 298,088, [Class 15 (ii), Dyeing, Processes &c. for], and of the process of Specification 220,964, [Class 15 (ii), Dyeing, Processes &c. for], as modified or improved upon by the processes of Specifications 281,336 or 306,800, [both in Class 15 (ii), Dyeing, Processes &c. for], by incorporating in the printing paste, together with glycol or a glycol ether, a heavy metallic reserve salt, printing therewith, drying and steaming to develop the ester salt, and finally dyeing with the vat dye in the usual manner. In examples, the goods are printed with pastes containing (1) the sodium salt of the sulphuric ester of leuco-6 : 61-diethoxythioindigo, glycol, reserve stock, monochlorhydrin, sodium chlorate, kaolin, and ammonium vanadate, and (2) the sodium salt of the sulphuric ester of leuco-6 : 6\sv-dibrom-4 : 4\sv-dimethylthioindigo or of leuco-5 : 5\sv-dichlor-7 : 7\sv-dibromthioindigo, monoethylglycol, reserve stock, diethyltartrate, sodium chlorate, kaolin, and ammonium vanadate. The reserve stock used in the examples contains lead nitrate, copper acetate, copper sulphate, lead sulphate and rubber solution.
