Abstract

R÷ntgen-ray apparatus. - For controlling the exposures in X-ray photography a raysensitive cell connected to a device for indicating its charge is arranged on the opposite side of the object being photographed to the source of X-rays. The exposure is given for the time required for the indicating device to reach the value at which the photographic plate exhibits the optimum ground blackening and which is constant for the type of plate used. Where several objects of different permeability to the rays are to be photographed together, a cell of sufficient size to be simultaneously affected by rays traversing each of the objects is used, or the cell may be moved during the exposure. A cassette incorporating a cell for use in the process comprises a frame 30 covered in front by a sheet of aluminium 31 behind which are placed reinforcing foils 32 enclosing the sensitive film 33. A lead plate 36, having a window 38 behind which is a shell 41 of material opaque to the rays, containing the cell 4a, is fitted in the back of the frame 30. In a modification, the shell 41 is mounted on a lead slide moving in a groove in the plate 36. The cell mav also be used to determine the time of exposure, and be replaced by the plate during the exposure itself.
